How a Magician Helped Me Market My Children’s Book
A couple of years ago, I met a Calgary birthday magician named Christopher Cool https://christophercool.com/ at my grandson’s birthday party.
He handed each child a colouring page with a picture of himself and his name. My immediate thought was, “Why don’t I do that?”
No, not his picture, and not mine.
I mean, why don’t I turn my children’s book cover https://www.victoriajurgens.com/books into a colouring page that I can hand out to children when I do a book reading or have a booth at an event?
A big hit.
That’s exactly what I did, and it was a hit!
In June, I had the opportunity to participate in a booth at a festival called Art in the Park. It was in Ashworth Holmes Park, in the Caswell Hill district of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada.
Three of us authors—Victoria M. Jurgens, Kelly-Robyn Bellamy, and Daniel Bouchard—shared a booth. We had our books and giveaways set out—ready for the crowds.
I love meeting people one-on-one, and this was the perfect venue to do so.
Giving away a free Silisia Dances colouring page gave me the opportunity to share this book’s origin story https://www.victoriajurgens.com/journal/how-i-became-a-best-selling-childrens-book-author.
Creativity enhanced in the arms of Mother Nature.
The park was a beautiful place to hold such an event. I took a gander through the event and noticed many creative vendors with a variety of skills. Mother Nature is a beautiful setting in which to hold such creativity.
The first-aid people had nothing to do, which was a good thing.
Eventually, I found the ice cream truck. The double cone of maple walnut ice cream melted as fast as I licked it, an essential part of my experience.
The event was well organized, and it showed in the delightful patrons who stopped at my/our booth.
Kelly-Robyn and I shared marketing tips during quiet times between the crowds that stopped by.
